The Kings of Leon are back from a three-year hiatus, reasserting their power on the realm of rock music with the release of Mechanical Bull.
“Comeback story,” an uplifting track with cascading riffs, is perhaps the song to describe what the sixth studio album is to the Followill brothers. The lyrics say, “it’s the comeback story of a lifetime,” which may or may not be an overstatement, but what’s certain is the King’s resurgence into the mainstream as a classic-rock band with their newest compilation.
Mechanical Bull kicks off with “Supersoaker,” a single released back in July that whets and satisfies the appetites for that soaring, arena-rock sound missed since their 2008 album, Only by the Night, with the hit singles “Use Somebody” and “Sex On Fire.” The Tennessee natives blend in their Southern-rock elements with the funky blues-infused track “Family Tree,” a song of loyalty, endurance, and the ability to overcome hardships through the strength of the familial bond. Together, what KOL have created is a focused, timeless album that’s compatible enough to be listened to in the car on the way to work, or in an arena with one hundred thousand King-hungry rockers.
All hail the King(s):
